Hi there, we are Emer and Nils from Let’s Go Ireland.
We are glad to see you are curious and want to know some more about us and the site. Thanks for stopping by!
Whether you are planning your trip to Ireland, just daydreaming of a trip in the future or would like to learn more about this island and its fascinating culture, you are in the right place. We want to help you discover what Ireland has to offer and convince you, without a doubt, that a trip to Ireland will an incredibly memorable experience. Have fun exploring our site!
How Let’s Go Ireland was born
Our friends frequently ask us for the best insider tips for their trips to Ireland. They want to experience the “real” Ireland during their stay and get that sense of cultural immersion that goes beyond what a regular tourist guide book offers. (Most guide books are too generic and lack the personal touch. Tips from a local are so much better!) After creating list after list of personalized itineraries, we decided to create a website so that we can also share this information with you!
We have learned through our own travels, both in Ireland and beyond that a good, reliable travel resource can save you a lot of precious time, both at the planning stage and during your actual holiday. With this site, we aim to provide you with the tips, tricks and information that we would want ourselves if we were going to Ireland.
How we like to travel
When we visit a new place or country, we always try to delve into the culture as this enriches our holiday experience immeasurably. In Bali, for example, we were invited to take part in a holy cleansing ritual and in Iran we jumped over bonfires as part of the Iranian New Year celebration. We are not interested in “ticking places off a list”.
Call it the art of slow travel; we try to measure our travel experiences by their memorable quality, not the number of locations that we have visited. Our efforts have been often rewarded when the road less travelled or the tip given to us by a local proved to be the most enjoyable, unforgettable experience of an entire holiday.
Who knows Ireland better than a local?! Emer hails from the Emer(ald!) Isle and is the Irish half of Let’s Go Ireland. Her love of her home country is particularly evident when she overzealously writes long lists of unmissable sights that have to be included in her friend’s travel itineraries!
Emer is the go-to person for all topics relating to Irish nature, landscape and hiking. Having spent most of her life exploring Ireland county by county, she has a great knowledge of the top sights and hidden gems well off the beaten track. Do you want to know where the most stunning hikes in Kerry are or what attractions are as good as the hyped ones, but without the crowds? Emer is the person to ask. Besides her love of Irish flora and fauna, she is an avid Yogi and loves to draw.
Nils is our Irish culture expert. Originally from Germany, but having lived in Ireland for several years, he has gathered an “outsider’s” perspective of Irish culture. He loves the cultural beauty of Ireland and enjoys helping others to discover this too.
His particular passion is Irish literature… so much so that he went on to do a PhD in in this field. While living in Dublin, he also worked as a tour guide for the James Joyce Centre. By the way, don’t mention Joyce to him when you meet him, otherwise he’ll talk to you for hours! Besides that, he really loves the welcoming and easy-going attitude of the Irish and believes that there is nothing better than enjoying a fresh pint with friends in an Irish pub.
Why our blog is the ideal and trustworthy resource for your trip to Ireland
- We are Ireland enthusiasts and thoroughly enjoy advising people about how to make their trip to Ireland as enjoyable and memorable as possible.
- We have a unique, combined perspective of Ireland as a travel destination (Emer grew to love Ireland from within and Nils has a fresh “outside” perspective).
- We both know Ireland very well and have travelled the island extensively.
- We have both worked in the tourist industry in Ireland.
- We only recommend attractions, sites and locations that we believe will add value to your trip. Trust us to tell it like it is: we are independent and all of our opinions are our own.
- We are experienced in research and are able to clearly communicate and present our knowledge (we both hold PhD degrees; Emer in Ecology and Nils in Modern Irish Literature).
